Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia · Malaysia
A two-part Borneo adventure: summit Mount Kinabalu (4,095 m) via the Summit Trail — Southeast Asia's highest peak — then descend into the Kinabatangan River rainforest for proboscis monkey and pygmy elephant encounters. Kinabalu involves a steep 6 km ascent to the Low's Peak summit, typically done overnight to catch sunrise. The Kinabatangan is best explored by river boat from Sukau; dawn and dusk boat rides offer reliable wildlife sightings. Combining both takes about 10 days.
