Overview
Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon on earth and one of Africa's great trekking destinations, a 5-day unsupported route through 85 kilometres of raw desert canyon following the river as it winds between the walls of ancient gneiss and quartzite. The permit limits visitor numbers strictly, no guides or support are available once you descend, and the midday desert heat between May and September is manageable. This is self-reliance wilderness at its finest.
