Overview
The Tsum Valley is a remote Himalayan valley in Gorkha district that maintained complete isolation from the outside world until 2008, preserving a Tibetan Buddhist culture that has disappeared from Tibet itself. The sacred Mu Gompa monastery at 3700m is the spiritual heart of a culture that prohibits hunting and maintains the valley as a place of ahimsa non-violence. Snow leopards still patrol the upper reaches with relative impunity.
