Overview
The Altai Republic in Siberia borders Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and China at the junction of four countries and is one of Russia's most beautiful and least visited highland regions. Belukha Mountain at 4506m is the highest peak in Siberia outside the Caucasus, and the approach through the Katun and Chuya river valleys passes Scythian burial mounds, Altai shamanic sacred sites, and White Berd wildlife sanctuaries.
