Weddell Sea, Antarctica · Antarctica
The Weddell Sea is the most remote part of Antarctica and the location of Shackleton's Endurance ship, recently discovered on the sea floor. Emperor penguin colonies accessible only in winter or from icebreakers, and pack ice pressure ridges traversed by very few humans, define one of the most extreme expeditions available. The Weddell Sea's wildlife includes Weddell seals, crabeater seals, and leopard seals in extraordinary concentrations.
