Overview
The Nakasendo is one of the five historic roads connecting Edo with Kyoto, and its best-preserved sections through the Kiso Valley pass through post towns where samurai-era architecture remains intact. Tsumago and Magome are the most famous preserved juku-machi, and the 8-kilometre connecting trail through cedar forest passes between them in a walk through Edo-period Japan. Cherry blossom or autumn leaves elevate the beauty to perfection.
