Apurimac Canyon, Peru · Peru
Choquequirao is dubbed the other Machu Picchu, an Inca citadel perched at 3050m above the Apurimac Canyon that remains accessible only by foot. The four-day round trip descends 1500m to the canyon floor and climbs back through cloud forest to the terraced city that may have housed the last Inca resistance against Spanish conquest. Less than 30% of the city has been excavated.
