Overview
The Ausangate Circuit orbits the 6384m Apu Ausangate, sacred mountain of the Quechua people, through high puna grassland dotted with vicuna herds and alpaca flocks. Crossing five passes above 5000m, the route visits the Rainbow Mountain phenomenon and thermal hot springs at Pacchanta village. Fewer crowds than Machu Picchu make this one of Peru's most rewarding high-altitude treks.
