Overview
Aoraki Mount Cook at 3,724 metres is New Zealand's highest peak and offers serious alpine climbing on routes graded up to New Zealand Grade 6. The Linda Glacier route is the standard ascent, but the East Ridge and Empress Ridge offer classic mixed routes for experienced alpinists. The Hermitage Hotel area below provides acclimatisation walks past the Hooker Glacier terminal lake with its floating icebergs.
