Armenia's ancient landscapes of volcanic mountains, medieval monasteries carved into cliff faces, and the world's oldest winery at Areni contain 6,000 years of continuous civilisation in an area smaller than Belgium. The Transcaucasian Trail through Dilijan National Park passes old-growth forest harbouring lynx, and the high route to Aragats volcano at 4,090 metres provides views over Mount Ararat in Turkey. The monasteries of Noravank, Tatev, and Geghard represent Armenian Christian architecture at its finest.
