Overview
Oman's Hajar Mountains contain some of the most dramatic trekking terrain in the Middle East, with wadis descending from the high Jebel Akhdar Green Mountain plateau through slot canyons to the desert below. The Wadi Ghul, Oman's Grand Canyon, drops 1,000 metres to the Ghul village below the rim. The traditional falaj water channel irrigation system of the mountain villages is a UNESCO-recognised engineering achievement dating to antiquity.
