Overview
The Icelandic highlands F-roads are only accessible by high-clearance 4WD vehicles for three months of the year and pass through surreal volcanic landscapes of obsidian fields, coloured rhyolite mountains, and the vast Langisjor lake. The Kjolur route between Hvitarvatn and Hveravellir crosses the highland plateau used by outlaws who evaded the law for centuries in this borderless wilderness. No services exist for hundreds of kilometres.
