Overview
Tracing the Amazon River from its source at Lake Vilafro in the Peruvian Andes to the Atlantic delta is one of the greatest river journeys on Earth, descending from 5,000 metres to sea level over 6,400 kilometres through the world's largest rainforest. The upper Apurimac section requires whitewater kayaking or rafting skills, while the main Amazon is navigated by local cargo boats and motorised canoes between Iquitos and Belem. Wildlife sightings include pink river dolphins, anacondas, and jaguars.
