Overview
The Carretera Austral, Chile Route 7, is the most spectacular cycling route in South America, running 1,240 kilometres through Patagonian wilderness that can only be accessed by this single dirt road. The route passes the marble caves of Puerto Rio Tranquilo, the Queulat Hanging Glacier, and the turquoise Rio Cochamo valley before reaching Villa O'Higgins at road's end. Multiple ferry crossings and dirt road sections with river fords make this a genuine expedition.
