Overview
Cycling the King's Highway from Madaba to Petra combines the greatest concentration of archaeological sites in the Middle East with dramatic Jordanian desert scenery. The route passes through Wadi Mujib the Grand Canyon of Jordan, ancient Nabataean Petra accessible only on foot through the Siq gorge, and the red desert of Wadi Rum. Descending from 1,700 metres to the Dead Sea at 430 metres below sea level provides one of the world's most extreme elevation drops on a bicycle.
