Imlil · Morocco
The High Atlas Mountains south of Marrakech contain the highest peak in North Africa, Jebel Toubkal at 4,167 metres, accessible via the classic Toubkal Circuit through Berber villages that maintain traditional architecture and agriculture above 2,000 metres. The mule-track descent through Imlil valley passes terraced barley fields and walnut orchards. Combined with a night in a desert kasbah in the Dades Valley, this is Morocco's finest mountain experience.
