Overview
The Madre de Dios drainage in southeastern Peru contains the most biodiverse region on Earth, with Manu National Park UNESCO Biosphere Reserve recording more bird species than the entire continental United States. Canoe journeys from Atalaya down remote tributaries pass through territory where some indigenous communities maintain voluntary isolation.
