Overview
The Rwenzori Mountains on the Uganda-DRC border are Ptolemy's Mountains of the Moon, the legendary source of the Nile, shrouded in cloud and draped with bizarre Afroalpine vegetation. The central circuit passes through zones of giant heather, groundsels the size of trees, and lobelia forests dripping with moss, before reaching the glaciated peaks of Margherita at 5,109 metres. This is the most botanically extraordinary mountain trek in the world.
