Overview
The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route traverses the Northern Japan Alps from Toyama on the Sea of Japan to Nagano in the interior, crossing at 2,450 m through the Tateyama mountain complex by a succession of cable cars, trolley buses, and ropeways — with a section on foot across the caldera at Murodo. In late April to May, the route cuts through snow walls up to 20 m high. Mount Tateyama (3,015 m) is one of Japan's three holy mountains.
