Taplejung · Nepal
Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the world's third-highest mountain, is the most remote and least-visited of Nepal's 8,000 m peaks — a 3-week trek just to reach its base camps. The north and south base camp circuit passes through intact rhododendron and bamboo forest still harbouring red pandas and snow leopards, through Tibetan-influenced villages at the Taplejung headwaters, and to the stupendous Yalung Glacier viewpoint beneath the south face. Restricted area permit required.
