Overview
The Copper Canyon (Barrancas del Cobre) in Chihuahua, Mexico, is a network of six canyons deeper and broader than the Grand Canyon — up to 1,879 m deep and 150 km wide — carved by six rivers draining the Sierra Tarahumara. The Tarahumara (Rarámuri) people have lived in cave dwellings and scattered ranchos across the canyon for millennia and are famous for long-distance barefoot running. The Chepe train from Los Mochis to Chihuahua City is the iconic journey.
