Wadi Rum is the largest wadi in Jordan — a valley of red and orange sandstone rising in monumental jebels (mountains) over a vast flat desert floor, where Lawrence of Arabia camped and where the Martian landscape draws film crews from around the world. A 5-day trek crosses the interior on foot with a Bedouin guide, sleeping in black goat-hair tents and waking to silence. The rock climbing at Jebel Rum is world-class; the sunsets are simply impossible.
