Overview
The Rwenzori Mountains — Africa's Mountains of the Moon straddling the Uganda-DRC border — are a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most unusual landscapes on earth. Giant lobelias and groundsels, some over 6 m tall, crowd the valleys; the summit zone of Mount Stanley (5,109 m) is perpetually glaciated at the equator. The 7-day Central Circuit visits all the high camps and the glaciers that are visibly retreating each year. A guide and porter are mandatory.
