Mount Rinjani (3,726 m) on Lombok is Indonesia's second-highest volcano and the most dramatic summit on Bali's doorstep. The standard 3-day trek circles the caldera rim, descends to the crater lake Segara Anak, and ascends the steep final cone to the summit crater. Views at dawn from the rim extend over Bali, Sumbawa, and the Java Sea. The trek requires good fitness; the crater descent involves long, sandy slopes that reward momentum.
