The Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps is the via ferrata capital of the world — iron rungs, stemples, and wire ropes bolted into impossibly sheer granite faces allow access to summit ridges that would otherwise require serious rock climbing. The Ferrata degli Alpini above Courmayeur, the Ferrata del Cervino on Monte Rosa, and the spectacular Ferrata Recoaro in the Brenta group are all within reach of a week-long circuit based at valley campsites.
