Overview
Kyrgyzstan's Tian Shan mountains offer horse trekking through high-altitude jailoos (summer pastures) where nomadic herding families still move their flocks between valleys seasonally. Routes from Karakol into the Terskey Alatau ranges or from Naryn into the Song Kul plateau cross high passes above 4,000 m, reach ice-cold alpine lakes, and end each night in a yurt with fermented mare's milk and mutton. No technical riding experience needed; the horses know the terrain.
