Overview
Cocos Island, 550 km off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is perhaps the world's best shark-diving destination — a submerged seamount that aggregates scalloped hammerheads in groups of hundreds, plus tiger sharks, silky sharks, and the occasional whale shark. The island is national park; access is strictly liveaboard only, with 5–6 day passages from Puntarenas. Strong currents require Advanced Open Water and experience.
