Overview

Interlaken sits on a flat green parade ground between two lakes with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau stacked at the end of the valley, and it has quietly become Europe's most efficient adventure hub. In five days you can paraglide off Beatenberg and land on the Höhematte in the town centre, canyon the polished chutes of the Saxet gorge above Saxeten, raft the glacial Lütschine's grade III–IV snowmelt, and finish with the Schynige Platte to Faulhorn ridge hike, the whole Jungfrau wall lit up across the valley. The moment that sells it is stepping off the paragliding launch: two strides of running and the lakes swing beneath you, Thun turquoise on one side, Brienz jade on the other. The catch-out is weather churn — föhn wind or a low cloud base cancels flights and canyoning at short notice, so book activities early in your stay and keep the last day free to reshuffle. Everything is walkable or a train stop apart; no car needed. June to September for the full menu; the Lütschine is snow-fed and properly cold. Budget around £900 for hostel beds and four big activity days — Switzerland charges Swiss prices, but no single ticket disappoints.
